The Spider bite 20" x 16"
This piece is based on the urban legend of the spider bite. This urban legend is about a girl or a young woman who is bitten on the face by a spider. Unknown to her, the spider has laid eggs in her face. The spot swells up, and at some point it bursts releasing millions of baby spiders. Mediums: pen, acrylic paint

The Wendigo 24" x 18"
This piece is on the Wendigo. The wendigo is the Native American legend of a cannibalistic giant, or spirit, that kills and eats people. It represents starvation and winter. It is supposed to be emaciated and grotesque looking. The legend of the Wendigo also refers to people who are said to be possessed by an evil spirit and become cannibals or ‘go Wendigo’. Mediums: acrylic paint, glitter, watercolor paint

The Sirens 18" x 24"
I chose to do this piece on Sirens. Sirens are mythical creatures who lure men to their deaths with their singing. I decided to paint part bird sirens instead of part fish. They are described both ways and I thought that doing them as part bird would be more interesting for me. Mediums: glitter, acrylic paint, fake jewels

The Jackalope 14” x 11”
The Jackalope is the legend of a rabbit with antlers or horns. The legend of a horned rabbit has been around since ancient times and has appeared in different cultures, but the Jackalope itself started becoming more well known in North America when a hunter put deer antlers on a rabbit carcass and sold it. Sightings of Jackalopes may have actually been rabbits with the Shope papilloma virus, a virus that can cause rabbits to grow horn-like keratin tumors around their face, head, and mouth.

Vampire 20” x 16
Vampires are undead creatures that drink blood. They are said to have fangs, and sometimes pale skin, pointy ears, or catlike eyes. In some stories vampires look more like corpses. In some legends vampires don’t have a reflection, can turn into a bat, or have to be invited into a home before they can enter. Ways of fighting against vampires are garlic, crosses and holy water, or even salt. In some legends salt can be used to slow down vampires, because vampires have to stop and count every granule. In some legends vampires burn up in the sun, while in others it doesn’t affect them too much. People have been afraid of vampires for a long time. If they thought a dead person was going to come back or had already come back as a vampire, they would burn, impale the corpse through the chest and into the ground with a stake, or put a brick in the mouth of the corpse.
